Description[edit | edit source]

Floating the middle current is an excellent option when there is a desire for peace and quiet but the schedule only permits a saturday float.

Swift currents enable determined floaters to tackle this 16.5 mile section with much less paddling effort than might be expected. There are additional access points at Powder Mill Campground and Roberts Field, but outfitters do not usually have the volume to justify regular afternoon shuttle pickups at those locations.

An early start is always recommended, but for this section particularly, paddlers can enjoy quiet and smooth water before outboard jet boats start to become more prevalent in the early afternoon. The horsepower limit on this section is 60hp for jet units and 40hp for propeller boats. Some rules for Sharing the Water will enable paddlers and boaters to interact safely, minimizing opportunities for conflict.
